The Saturday Job

I have two jobs. I know, in this economy I'm technically being greedy. But one of them is a Saturday job and the other is part time (plus the second one involves working at a school, so you'll find out more about it when half-term ends for all the kiddies).

By the way, the reason I'm posting this now is so I don't have to rush tomorrow morning. Plus I can tell you the highlights when I get home - if there are any, that is.

So, my Saturday job involves me working at the tills of a garden centre located on what seems to be the very edge of Nottingham. Lots of plants of all shapes, sizes and colours get effectively thrown through the tills at this particular garden centre - quite ironic, then, that I hardly know anything about plants, let alone the ones the shop sells.

Luckily for me, the shop sells lots of gifts and sparkly things too, ones I know more about, so you would assume that makes up for my shortfall. However, the inner workings of the shop has one minor, yet major flaw; a flaw that is every cashier's nightmare -

Some of the items the shop sells don't always have barcodes on them.

You wouldn't think it's such a big deal, but when you're a cashier, you have a massive queue and the only reason the customers are being held up is a problem with a damaged/covered/non-existent barcode, you tend to panic just a little.

The good news about my job is that:

1. Having problems with the barcode doesn't normally happen
2. I have the ability to smile endlessly at customers (possibly making them slightly uncomfortable in the process)
3. If I do get stressed, all I have to do is wait till lunch/afternoon break, and recover by eating a cupcake (preferably with pink and/or purple icing) :D
4a. At special events like Easter or Christmas, all the employees join in by wearing something associated with the event (I got to be the Easter bunny's stand-in this year!)
4b. The kids who visit ACTUALLY THINK they're seeing Santa/Elves/Easter bunny/Easter bunny's friends-who-look-like-humans-with-bunny-ears-on-their-heads
5. The uniform means I get to wear pink to work

In other words, I love my job :)
