Timekeeper Memories

So me and my boyfriend Dan were talking about memorable trips we had when we were kids.
I told him about me and my family's experience at the Millennium Dome back in 2000 (14 years ago, I know!) - my Dad worked there for a short while so we got to go twice.

We found a video on YouTube that took the viewer on a virtual tour of the Dome, highlighting various innovative and exciting exhibits, including wonders (if you remember them!) such as Play, Rest, Living Island, and of course, The Millennium Show, amongst other things.

I was particularly disappointed when I noticed that one area in particular hadn't been included in the tour. This was probably my favourite part of the Dome - it was called Timekeepers of the Millennium.

Whilst animatedly telling Dan about me and my family's enjoyment at firing "Time Crystals" (aka foam balls) at each other, I sadly told him that I had no idea what had happened to it when the Dome closed (before becoming the O2 Arena) and that as soon as I knew how to search the internet for it, I have been trying to discover the answer to its whereabouts ever since.

So this evening, while I was doing my work, he decided it would be a good idea to look for it himself, starting with a wiki page of the Millennium Dome.

After finding a picture of the front of the Timekeepers area, he noticed that it was similar to one of the rides at Chessington World of Adventures, a website that had been mentioned on the Dome wiki page as the suggestion to Timekeepers' whereabouts.

I can now reveal that after 14 years of wondering and hoping that it wasn't in a scrapheap somewhere, Timekeepers has been found!

It now takes the form of a play area called Temple of Mayhem in the Wild Asia section of Chessington. Sadly the height restrictions mean that I can no longer play, but it gives me great pleasure knowing that such a great attraction found a really good home to be enjoyed by the masses (of children. Lots of them).

So Chessington, when I come and visit you for the first time, don't be surprised if I'm outside the Temple of Mayhem reminiscing of my amazing time in the Millennium Dome, firing "Time Crystals" at my twin sister and running around like a maniac.

Because I did.
And it was awesome.
