Drought zones? What drought zones?
We've just had a huge deluge of rain here in Britain, just days after the government declared drought zones across several counties. Luckily, even though I'm in one of the affected zones, we have no hosepipe ban because the water company that serves my zone was sensible in the first place, piping some of the water we use from a different part of England so we don't have to wait for more downpours to fill up all the reservoirs/lakes/rivers/irrigation systems/etc.
If you don't live in Britain (i.e. England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland), you probably would've guessed by now that we (nearly) always complain about the weather we get, although I only tend to complain when it's wet, cold, and I'm ill as a result. Which is what I'm basically doing now.
I have a horrible cold, which stops me from helping the kids tonight at Woodpeckers, but it isn't enough to keep me in bed for the whole day (although I fell asleep on the sofa earlier).
So here I am, writing this whilst knitting the rest of my scarf that I hopefully won't need until next winter. Then again, by the looks of the weather predictions for the next week, I might need it sooner than I thought. Plus, my new umbrella broke last week, which I'm gutted about. Why? Well:
1. It was my favourite umbrella (pink, purple and blue spots, if you were wondering) and
2. I am gonna get seriously soaked if my parents are using the other umbrella we have.
Oh well. I guess I'll just have to book a shopping trip in my diary so I can buy a new one :)

Doors
I'm not talking about physical doors here, I'm talking about life-changing, metaphorical doors.
If you don't know what I'm on about, imagine a huge corridor with loads of little doors that are open/closed/locked/unlocked. All of them have different aspects of life on them, and each of these "life-doors" leads to a different corridor with some doors the same as the last corridor, some completely new doors, newly-unlocked doors and newly-locked doors etc.
Now, I'm at the 'Uni-stage' section of this corridor, and had two open doors in front of me. I've just cancelled my history course at NTU completely, therefore shutting and locking that door so I can't go that route.
That feeling of abruptness you get is quite....well....weird to say the least. Especially as I've locked the door myself just by clicking the 'send' button on my e-mail.
Sorry if none of this makes sense - it's just a few of the thought processes going off in my head - or it might even make sense to you, I don't know. For me, it helps make a little bit more sense of how my life is panning out. Plus, God has His own key, so He can lock/unlock doors, pull me back from some doors and throw me headfirst through others.
Bleh. Brain unloaded now.
On a completely unrelated note, I had a driving lesson today. Really need to get my theory test done so I can get it out the way. Got a bit annoyed today though - nearly hit a pedestrian who walked (literally) right in front of my car which was going at 40mph. Luckily, I'm edgy anyway, so I managed to brake in time whilst he carried on walking, apparently oblivious to the danger he was in. If I'd found my horn in time, I would've used it to its full potential.
I'm a relatively good driver, don't get me wrong. I do get panicky though, so I generally use my brake a lot. The day I can drive without panicking will surely be a day to celebrate.
But for now at least, stay off the roads so I can't hit you.

Excitement!
"What are you excited about?" I hear you ask. Well, I'm not gonna be writing in tomorrow for one simple reason....
It's my birthday tomorrow! Woooooooooo!
Plus I'm working tomorrow as well, so I'll be too busy prizing the kids off the bags of sweets I'm bringing them to update my blog.
I've nearly always handed out sweets on my birthday, because I always wanted everyone to feel involved - this is probably thanks to already sharing my birthday with my twin sister, although she's married now, so it's a little more difficult. But still fun, because I'm meeting up with her tomorrow to exchange presents :)
Speaking of sharing my birthday, it just so happens that my birthday is on the same day as the birthday of my favourite actor....David Tennant! :3 (If you don't know who he is by now, look him up on wikipedia or something :P) This is a fact that always amazes the kids I work with, and is a fact worth re-telling purely to see the look on the kids' faces. I then find, unexpectedly, that I'm now their new best helper. Strange children.
Oh, and for those of you who are wondering how old I'm gonna be tomorrow, I'll be 19.
19 and I still don't know what it's like to be fully drunk. And I don't intend to find out.

On your Marks, get set, Church!
I think it's safe to say that today's church service went incredibly well! We had no vicar, since he and his wife are on a well-deserved holiday - enter Dave, who took the service and themed it around sport and kids (a very good combination)! Sport phrases, dressing up (in sports gear, of course) and slow-motion running to "Chariots of Fire" all made the service a fantastic one!
What's more, despite me having a cold, the music went well too! We were all so pleased with how it turned out, even though the last song had the words missing from the projector - the congregation knew the chorus though, and I decided to do some jumping on the last one to get everyone lively! Luckily there were a couple of kids that decided to jump as well, though that might have been down to their own personal alternatives to standing still :) Gave us all a good workout though, it just proves that if your church has lively songs with actions, you don't necessarily need a gym!
I'm helping with another service tonight as well, the 7:30pm service called Refresh, though I'm not singing tonight, I'm doing the projector instead (don't worry, I have all the words this time!). My mum's leading the service as well, so this should be a good one! :D
Another good thing about tonight is that I don't have to get up early tomorrow morning - work doesn't start until 3pm for me, plus I have no driving lesson! So I can use my sleep to *cough* have a lie-in *cough* - I mean, I need it to recover from my cold!
Plus, I'll need to be saving all the energy I can for the after school clubs I work at, one of which involves escorting exciteable kids across a busy road at the bottom of a hill while the other I have to walk back up the hill for afterwards. Something tells me I'm gonna need to do some stretches...

A tiring but productive day...
The title says it all really. As my parents were away from Friday until this afternoon, I walked to work this morning. I was all up for the idea, thinking I would feel more awake for the day ahead.
At the end of the day, I couldn't have felt more tired if I tried.
Today was a day where discount stickers were missing from products (or hardly noticeable), missing barcodes were rife, and people were nearly taking alarmed baskets out of the door and setting off the sensors (much to the surprise of equally alarmed customers). And to top it all off, I have a cold and couldn't talk quite right today anyway - there were even a couple of times I had to stop and think about what I was going to say in front of customers because my brain was working too fast.
Plus, it was windy today, so the draught kept coming through the doors and making us all feel like we'd just been shoved into a giant fridge. I felt sorry for Tom (not from the garden centre, he works for a solar panel company that advertise and sell consultation appointments to passing customers) - he was standing in the porch for the vast majority of the afternoon, though he did come in to keep warm, have a quick chat, talk to a few of the customers and grab the odd cup of tea to take back into the porch with him. Sensible person :)
I did have a lovely day though, despite having aches in my ankles and problems with the tills! I got to see a little girl who's in the class I help on a Tuesday morning at a primary school near where I live, plus I got to see one of my old supply teachers whom I haven't seen for about 6 or 7 years!! Plus my collegues constantly kept me entertained, mainly with tales of nights out or acts of general sillyness! :D
So overall, I've had a pretty good day! Now to focus on getting my singing voice better for tomorrow morning - I'm supposed to be singing as part of my church's band, so we'll see how that goes, and of course, I'll keep you updated! :D

The Saturday Job
I have two jobs. I know, in this economy I'm technically being greedy. But one of them is a Saturday job and the other is part time (plus the second one involves working at a school, so you'll find out more about it when half-term ends for all the kiddies).
By the way, the reason I'm posting this now is so I don't have to rush tomorrow morning. Plus I can tell you the highlights when I get home - if there are any, that is.
So, my Saturday job involves me working at the tills of a garden centre located on what seems to be the very edge of Nottingham. Lots of plants of all shapes, sizes and colours get effectively thrown through the tills at this particular garden centre - quite ironic, then, that I hardly know anything about plants, let alone the ones the shop sells.
Luckily for me, the shop sells lots of gifts and sparkly things too, ones I know more about, so you would assume that makes up for my shortfall. However, the inner workings of the shop has one minor, yet major flaw; a flaw that is every cashier's nightmare -
Some of the items the shop sells don't always have barcodes on them.
You wouldn't think it's such a big deal, but when you're a cashier, you have a massive queue and the only reason the customers are being held up is a problem with a damaged/covered/non-existent barcode, you tend to panic just a little.
The good news about my job is that:
1. Having problems with the barcode doesn't normally happen
2. I have the ability to smile endlessly at customers (possibly making them slightly uncomfortable in the process)
3. If I do get stressed, all I have to do is wait till lunch/afternoon break, and recover by eating a cupcake (preferably with pink and/or purple icing) :D
4a. At special events like Easter or Christmas, all the employees join in by wearing something associated with the event (I got to be the Easter bunny's stand-in this year!)
4b. The kids who visit ACTUALLY THINK they're seeing Santa/Elves/Easter bunny/Easter bunny's friends-who-look-like-humans-with-bunny-ears-on-their-heads
5. The uniform means I get to wear pink to work
In other words, I love my job :)

A hyper girl and The White Rabbit...
As you've probably already guessed from my blog title, I love dinky things. For those of you who don't know what "dinky" means, in this blog it generally means cute, small, quaint, and generally the little happy squiggly feeling you get when you see something pleasantly unusual in modern life.
Today, me and one of my best friends, Mary, took a trip into Nottingham. Whilst there, I decided to take her to a small tea shop down one of the roads close to the Broadmarsh Centre (for those who don't know where this is, don't worry, it's not that important). This tea shop is called The White Rabbit, possibly a reference to Alice in Wonderland, but rather than looking insanely untidy, it was quite the opposite.
I, having been to the White Rabbit before, order myself a pot of tea whilst my friend orders a hot chocolate. The conversation starts off normal, but that's when our order arrives. As I'm pouring my tea into a dinky china cup, that's when my friend starts sniggering.
After a few moments of silent mirthing, she explains the reason behind her giggles.
"You looked just like my mum when you poured your tea!" she laughs. "I feel as though we're a couple of old ladies sitting here drinking out of china cups!"
Bearing in mind this is the girl who wants to be wheelchair racing when she finds herself in a nursing home.
Needless to say, she enjoyed the hot chocolate at least...

Road rage?
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not generally an angry person. You see, I'm currently taking driving lessons so I can gain some kind of independence in travel and not have to rely on a bus that's constantly late.
The lessons themselves don't make me cross, it's the people who take advantange of the fact I'm a learner driver.
An incredibly nervous and twitchy learner driver.
I'm getting more confident as I go, mind, it's just some drivers are sheer idiots on the road. And the more I look at said drivers, the more it becomes clear that it's not just the younger generation that turn too early into roads and nearly run into me, or deliberately overtake me because they think I'm going to be slow.
I suppose the only consolation about this situation is that if they do crash into me, I'll be the one showing them up - then again, that's only if I was driving properly in the first place!
Luckily for you lot, I don't have a driving lesson again till the 23rd of April. So it's safe to drive/walk without the danger of a certain "L" Plate-encrusted car colliding with your bumper/face :)

Woot! New blog!
Hi!
I'm Cathy, I'm 6 days away from being 19, I'm a Christian and I live somewhere in Nottingham :)
This isn't my first blog - although this'll probably be the least hyper one. Hopefully (if this works) I'll be writing about my various encounters with everyday life, little rants about the things that don't work, and little events and quotes that make my day (and hopefully yours too!). If you're looking for novels or long, in-depth speeches and the like, go look someplace else, because this'll probably be your idea of boredom. Or it could be boring anyway, but that's down to your perspective.
Don't say I didn't warn you :)
